I absolutely love photographing this family! I got to meet them for the first time last fall and they were one of my favorite family sessions ever. It always makes my job easier when my family clients just enjoy hanging out and loving on each other. We had a gorgeous night for our session and I just love how these photographs turned out.

This family has been with me since the beginning and I am so blessed to say they have become much more than clients but also wonderful friends. I was so excited when they wanted to do their son's one year session at home just like we did their newborn session. I love these sessions because they are just so beautifully real. Being a parent is certainly not an easy job. The hours are long and tiring and we are stretched in a way we never thought possible. But the rewards are incredible. Getting to experience love and life through and with our children is truly a gift. This mama and I were talking at our session about how God so perfectly designed this season of life with little ones. The little years are such a treasure. Enjoy these precious photos with this wonderful family!
I just have to say, I know I'm only 4 weeks in to my 365 day project, but I am loving it. I was afraid it would feel daunting and like such a chore but instead I feel like it's breathing new life into my work and helping me document my family exactly the way I want to remember them, which is just documenting them exactly as they are. This week someone asked me if I am putting my kids up to this stuff and the answer is mostly no. Now sometimes I do ask them to do something or maybe direct their play into pretty light but for the most part, I'm keeping my camera in a central place in our home so it's handy and I can grab it when something happens. However, I have found myself saying "wait right there! Let me go get my camera!" :) Enjoy this weeks images!
I love the start of a new year. It always feels like such an exciting time to me. A time where the past doesn't matter as much and what's ahead is key. It's just so nice to start fresh, to set out to accomplish new goals whether they be spiritual, physical or professional. I have some of each this year it seems. From a photography standpoint, I have lots of things I'd love to accomplish like to get in the frame more with my kids, learn to shoot film and do a project 365. A 365 is where you take 1 photograph every day for 1 year. Of course I can take more than one and most certainly will some days but the idea is to be in the habit of shooting daily and push myself creatively. Since I'm not totally sure I can complete a full 365, I'm doing a 100 day challenge to start and see where it goes from there. So far, I'm loving it and I think I'll keep it up but I just want to be sure I get to 100. Ha! The thing I am loving the most about this project so far is that it is forcing me to see beauty in our everyday moments. I didn't really think there would be any kind of a theme to this project but I'm seeing that emerge after this first week and I would love for that to continue. The reason I first fell in love with photography was out of a desire to document the lives of my children and now as a professional it is so easy to lose sight of that when I am super busy with client work. So, it feels so great to get back to some basics while creating some images that I know I will always treasure. The first day, new years day, I took a portrait of each of my 3. Then each day after I just took one. Ellie getting her t-guard on to stop sucking her fingers, the next day playing with Daddy, taking down the tree, my little 3rd sickie drooling up a storm and Beck checking out the first snow of the year this morning. I hope you accomplish all your goals you've set out for yourselves this year! Thanks for looking!
Since today is the last day of 2014 I wanted to do a post compiling some of my favorites from client sessions this past year. What an amazing year this has been! I am so thankful to have had 80 sessions this year with 51 individual families. I had originally intended to do a post of each type of session I do but ran out of time so none of my maternity clients are featured here but you can see them here in a post I did on Monday. Thank you all so much for allowing me to come into your homes, get to know you a bit, and capture these beautiful memories for each of you to treasure for a lifetime. I love my job and it's because of you all that I am able to do it. I almost get emotional looking at all these photos because I know that each and every one is a real story of love and family. Thank you again for trusting me with your memories! I know this is LONG but I just couldn't pick a few favorites! Enjoy!
And here's one more for good measure with one from each and every session I did this year! Thanks so much for being a part of it and I can't wait to see you in the new year!
Merry Christmas from our family! We have been spending this Christmas eve baking cookies and getting ready to spend the next few days with friends and family. I pray you have a blessed Christmas with your family as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus! Merry Christmas!
I am so excited to share this awesome family session with you tonight. I feel so blessed to say that these are some of our very best friends and such an amazing and wonderful family! We truly love them so much! Recently, they finalized the adoption of their second child, so of course we had to do some official family photos to mark the occasion. We love you guys and are so happy for you! Congrats Wise family! Love ya'll!
So, this is sort of an emotional post for me because it's my very best friend in the world and her family that are featured on the blog tonight. Emotional because here in just a few short weeks, they are moving to Japan for a year. I am so incredibly excited for them but also so terribly sad to see them go. She is my bestie, my Jonathan. I seriously feel so incredibly blessed to have been given this gift of friendship with her for the past almost 20 years (goo!). Even our kiddos are best buds. January is going to be a tearful month for me for sure. So, on to the pictures...If you know this family, you love them. I was so excited to do some fun family portraits for them downtown before they leave. I'm gonna miss you guys like crazy, Shields fam! Love ya'll!
This family is so special to ours. I seriously can't say enough about how much we love them. Christa is such an incredible mother and I am privileged to call her one of my very best friends. I mean really, I have called her mid-temper-tantrum to ask for parenting advice. She's such a godly example to me all the time. I've been able to see their family grow in God's grace over the past few years and I was so honored to photograph their family recently after the birth of their sixth child. This might be one of my favorite newborn sessions ever. Our session just flowed so naturally. Kids were playing and eating lunch and being themselves. Heck, my baby was sleeping in a crib in the toddler's room! It is easy to see how much this family loves one another. Congrats Schoolfield family! I love you guys!

Whew! trying to get caught up on some blog post from the past month or so and I wanted to share this sweet baby session tonight. Baby Ellie is 8 months old and she is a completely adorable smiley little princess. I had so much fun with this sweet family again! Enjoy Lezatte family!
Last week we had beautiful weather to celebrate little Samuel with a one year session. This family is so special to me because I was honored to photograph their birth last year. Fast forward to now and I cannot believe it has been a whole year! Samuel is such a sweet + happy baby and his big sister is so loving with him. I had a great time as always catching up with this wonderful family! Happy Birthday Samuel!
So, I had sun drenched dreams for this gender reveal but alas, it’s gloomy and freezing out today so we opted for a little corner in our bedroom today after nap time to take our photos. And by the way, waking your 2 year old up early from her nap to tell her we are going to eat ice cream in Mommy’s room was LOTS of fun! This morning we got to see our 3rd sweet little baby for the very first time on ultrasound. The third time is no less exciting than the first. It is still amazing to see their sweet, tiny features. Still amazing to watch them moving around for the first time. Still amazing that God chose me to be bear and raise this little life. I cannot wait to hold this little one in my arms.
So, without further ado, here is our gender reveal….
IT’S A BOY!!! We are so excited. Beck was thrilled and Ellie just wanted to know where her little sister would be, haha!

I love getting to know + follow family’s and watch their children grow. I first met baby Ellie when she was just a few days old at her newborn session. You can see that here. Now she’s a smiley + chubby + adorable 4 month old! I look forward to seeing her grow even more this year. Enjoy these sweet photos!
Isn’t 4 just such a fun age? Las week I got to meet and photograph Isabella and her family for her four year portraits. She was a fun, spunky, sassy little thing! Full of personality and WOW such a beautiful child! Enjoy these sweet photos of Isabella! Merry Christmas!
I love this family. They are really great friends of our family and they are some of the most wonderful (and hilarious) people you will ever know. Lisa is also a super talented photographer as well so this session was so fun because I know myself how hard it can be to get on the other side of the lens. I hope you love your images Sykes family! I had a great time with ya’ll as always!
I spent a beautiful afternoon with this family last week. It took a while for little man to warm up to me but in the end he was all smiles and even wanted to give me a big ole hug before we left. :) Enjoy your photos! I had a great time with ya'll!
I love photographing newborns and their families. Although I always get sweet individual portraits of the new babe (or babes in this case:) ) my style of newborn photography is really focused on the whole family and capturing connections and details of this special time in life. With that being said, I had the opportunity to meet a family last week who just welcomed twin boys into their home! This was my first time photographing twins and I was so excited! They were perfect little angels and big brother was such a ham! Congratulations Cavender family! Enjoy this BUSY and wonderful time in the life of your family!
If you more of my recent newborn sessions you can see that here. And if you are interested in booking a session, you can contact me here. Looking forward to hearing from you!
